In her youth she aspired to become a singer and studied music in Rome, but had to abandon that path due to illness. She later worked at a craft shop in Helsinki, where ceramic pieces she designed for a Christmas window display attracted attention, leading her to pursue ceramics in her late thirties.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"ex-text-01\"\u003eFrom 1946 she studied sculpture in the evening program at the Central School of Arts and Crafts in Helsinki (now Aalto University), and during her student years she also gained experience in the art department of Arabia. In 1950 she established her own studio in Helsinki and worked as an independent ceramic artist until 1998.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"ex-text-01\"\u003eShe produced many animal-themed works using coarse chamotte clay, which were mainly sold at department stores in Helsinki such as Stockmann.
