"Bölgeblick" won second prize in the pressed glass category at the Karhula–Iittala glass design competition held in 1932.
It was internationally showcased early on, being exhibited in London in 1933, and manufacturing began at Karhula in 1934.
At the Milan Triennale in 1936, it won the Grand Prix for exhibition design, and simultaneously, the "Bölgeblick" series was awarded a gold medal.
From around 1937, it began to be sold as the "Aalto" series, named after the designer.

The name "Bölgeblick" is said to be related to "Café Böljeblick," a functionalist building that appeared at the Stockholm Exhibition in 1930, which is considered the starting point of Nordic modern design. It is regarded as a design born within the growing trend of Nordic modern design at the time.
In Finnish, "Aalto" means "wave," and the concentric circular form, spreading like ripples, has a double meaning as it also coincides with the designer's name.
The distinctive stepped rings not only reflect light beautifully but also offer the practicality of stacking for storage.
Furthermore, they functioned as a clever way to obscure bubbles and wrinkle-like marks commonly seen in mass-produced glass at the time.
It is one of the iconic products of Nordic modern design, with the "Aino Aalto" series still being manufactured by Iittala today.

This is a 180ml tumbler with product number 4056, a model produced at Karhula from 1936 to 1938.
It is part of the series that was exhibited at the Milan Triennale in 1936, where it won a gold medal.
