Carl Harry Stålhane was a Swedish artist and designer.
He began his career in 1939 as an assistant decorator to Gunnar Nylund at Rörstrand.
From 1945, he began creating stoneware as an independent artist in the art department, and in 1948, he presented his works in Stockholm.
His diverse range of works, influenced by various styles, was favorably received as the emergence of a new generation of artists, and a touring exhibition was held throughout Sweden.
During his year and a half of studying sculpture in Paris from 1948, he broadened his horizons by attending Pablo Picasso's ceramics debut exhibition and
viewing ceramic works by Joan Miró, and upon his return to Sweden, he presented works in a new style at his solo exhibition in 1952.
Influenced by Chinese porcelain, his works, characterized by stoic, refined, and simply lined forms, were highly praised and cemented his reputation.
Even after this, he did not stick to one style, but continued to explore new styles and presented many works.
From 1954, he was active in tableware, and in the 1960s, he also excelled in the field of public art.
The work titled "Growing Country," created in 1964 and installed in Kansas City, USA, was a colossal 54 meters long.
In 1973, he left Rörstrand and established his own studio, Designhuset, where he continued his creative activities until his death in 1990.
He received numerous awards, including an honorary award in 1951 and a gold medal in 1954 at the Milan Triennale.
